Legislators work for the people of Nevada, not the other way around. Nevadans expect their representatives to act in the public interest, not for special interests or personal gain. Maria will fight to restore trust in government and ensure elected officials are held to the same standards as the people they serve.
In recent years, a culture of corruption and self-dealing has taken hold in Carson City. In 2023, the Las Vegas Review-Journal exposed multiple legislative Democrats who voted to funnel taxpayer dollars to organizations where they worked or served on boards. The lack of open meeting safeguards allows lawmakers of both parties to act in their own self-interest. When legislation was introduced to increase transparency and accountability, Democrat leadership refused to even hold a hearing.
Maria will be a strong voice in the Senate for transparency, ethics, and fiscal responsibility. With extensive experience procuring Nevada public records and teaching others how to request them, she understands how transparency laws work in practice, and how they are too often ignored or exploited by those in power. She will fight to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly, strengthen disclosure and conflict-of-interest rules, and demand openness in the legislative process. Nevada deserves leaders they can count on to be their voice and fight for them. Maria will restore confidence in Carson City and keep our government working for you.
