As a former investigative journalist covering Clark County schools, Maria has seen firsthand where Nevada’s education system succeeds and where it fails students. From overcrowded classrooms to low graduation rates, too many children are left behind when schools lack accountability and proven academic support. Maria believes that real reform starts with honest performance standards and leaders who are held responsible for results.

Maria will fight to hold school administrators accountable for student performance and outcomes. Schools that consistently fail students should not be protected by bureaucracy or politics. She supports evidence-based solutions like high-dosage tutoring to help students who are behind catch up quickly, reduce absenteeism rates, improve literacy and math proficiency, and get back on track for graduation.

Under Governor Lombardo’s leadership, accountability and graduation rates are improving, but progress is often slowed by legislative resistance. Maria will be a strong partner in Carson City and will support higher standards, transparent performance metrics, and funding that follows strategies proven to work.

Maria also believes parents know what educational environment is best suited for their children. She will expand school choice, defend parental rights, and strongly support Nevada’s Opportunity Scholarship program so families can choose the school that best meets their child’s needs. Every student deserves access to a quality education, and every parent deserves a valued voice in that decision.
